Worthy of consideration for a magnificent state park, the site consists of some of the most scenic and well located lands within the boundaries of the Black Hills National Forest. Offering almost unlimited recreational opportunities, the site has a spectacular variety of terrain including, rolling meadows, rugged canyons, forested mountains, impressive rock formations and lakeside farm land as well as dramatic elevation changes and spectacular views. A network of traversable ridges and canyon trails provide access to the remote higher country, making most of the land vehicle accessible. The site is directly adjacent to Angostura Reservoir and the Angostura State Recreation Area. Angostura Reservoir is about 17 miles long with a water surface area of 4,612 acres at an elevation of 3,187.2 feet. In addition to Bureau of Reclamation lands, over 7,000 acres of United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and State of South Dakota lands border the site.
