Sully County, SD 57564 Dakota Feeding Company (DFC) is one of South Dakota’s largest cattle feeding facilities and located in the heart of some of the best cattle and grain production in the United States. Originally built in 1972, DFC is conveniently located 5 miles east of the city of Onida, South Dakota. Onida is home to Ringneck Energy & Feed, supplying the operation with distillers grain, as well as Oahe & CHS grain elevators, and local grain producers to supply the remaining feed base. Access to multiple sale barns and beef processing plants makes DFC a prime location. Owner states the outdoor capacity is 18,000-20,000 head and is currently permitted at 15,000 head with the State. The 108’x1,000’ confinement barn could be utilized for an additional 1,500-2,000 head of calves, or 10,000 lambs. Currently permitted under owner stated capacity, there is plenty of room for expansion, pending further DANR permitting, to maximize return on investment. The yards are made up of 80+ pens in total: 50 Large outdoor pens measure approximately 200’x250’; 25 smaller outdoor pens measure 100’x250’; 4 east pens of approximately 120'x200' and an additional smaller pen of 80’x120’. Large 12’x44’ 50K# capacity scale, at loading chute. Two artesian wells are located on the property andare approximately 2,100 ft deep. Wells are permitted under the DANR Water Rights Department along with the manure management plan.Improvements include a fully functional scale, sick barn, processing barn, shop with wash bay, loading chute, and a 2-story office building, with kitchen- to name a few. The mill is fully operational with an auger pit and two grain bins for storage. Recently, DFC has undergone significant improvement with a lagoon project, upgrade to the supply and drain lines along with new water tanks. The 80-acre freshwater pond provides natural habitat for duck, geese and some of the best per acre pheasant hunting in the state. Cattails, marshes, prairie grass and exotic plant life make this a great location for small game hunting. Excess freshwater is collected inthe irrigation pond, which is permitted for crop irrigation. Sully County has granted a ¼ mile section line south of the feeding pens for future expansion.
Property taxes are approximately $4,200 annually according to the Sully Countytreasurer. The airports in Onida and Pierre SD provide easy access to the yard’s location. Larger regional airports are found a few short hours away in Rapid City, Aberdeen and Sioux Falls, SD. The quaint town of Onida has a population of roughly 650 people, a high school and many amenities including a grocery store, hardware, car dealerships, post office, K-12 school system, churches, and much more. The Capital of South Dakota, Pierre, is just a short 35-minute drive, and nestled on the breathtaking banks of the Missouri River & Oahe Reservoir. Choose from the many fine dining restaurants Pierre has to offer. Known for excellent fishing, hunting and recreational offerings, Pierre is the hub for the adventurer. West of Onida is renowned Bush’s Landing and several other hot spots for fishing, game, and scenic views along Lake Oahe.
