Region & Climate Custer County experiences a continental climate typical of much of the Intermountain West region of the United States with cold winters and hot summers, low precipitation, and a high number of sunny days. Annual snowfall can vary but tends to be moderate, especially in the higher elevations. History Eastern Idaho was settled primarily in the 1880’s and 1890’s mostly by Mormon Pioneers.
