Forest Service Road 44N20 traverses the property from the east to west boundaries at approximately the 4,640′ elevation level. The elevation ranges from 5,360′ at the northwest corner to 3,920′ at the southern boundary. The West Fork of Rattlesnake Creek is less than 100-yards from the northeast corner of the property. Native grasses, shrubs, mixed conifer, oak woodlands and other trees densely populate the land along with deer, upland birds and other wildlife. Recreation The property is within B-6 Zone for deer hunting. Archery season is 8/20/2022 – 9/11/2022 and rifle season is 9/17/2022 – 10/16/2022. Agriculture The property is prime timberland that borders National Forest. Region & Climate Siskiyou County is in the northernmost part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,076. Its county seat is Yreka and its highest point is Mount Shasta. It falls within the Cascadia bioregion and is in the Shasta Cascade region. History The Town of Fort Jones is located within the northern part of Scott Valley surrounded by the Klamath Mountains to the west and the Cascade Mountain range to the east. Fort Jones was established in October 1852, when Captain Edward H. Fitzgerald and the 1st Dragoons began construction of a fort located near the current community of Fort Jones. The fort was established to protect settlers in far-northern California and southern Oregon from Rogue River Indian raids. Siskiyou County is in inland northern California, adjacent to the Oregon border. As the fifth largest county in California by area, Siskiyou County features spectacular natural beauty and scenic cities and towns including Yreka–the County Seat, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, McCloud and Tulelake as well as Butte Valley, Scott Valley, Shasta Valley and the Klamath River Corridor. Greater than 60% of the land within the County is currently managed by agencies of the Federal and State governments. These lands are maintained in various National Forests; Parks; Wilderness Areas; National Grasslands; National Wildlife Refuges; and State Wildlife Areas. Next to the Appalachian region, Siskiyou County is one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the world. It sites the “meeting” of several western mountain ranges and the transitional mixing of various habitat types. Geographically, it has considerable vertical variance in elevation, hydrological and soil conditions. Portions of the County are heavily influenced by volcanic forces. Siskiyou County also has several areas that were unaffected by ancient glacial flooding. Siskiyou County is the fifth largest county by area and the population as of 2010 was 44,962 which is roughly a 11,000 population increase since 1970. Location This property is near the center of Siskiyou County, California, approx. 12-miles from Fort Jones and 29-miles from Yreka. Ashland, Oregon is 67-miles north, Mt. Shasta about 62-miles to the south and Redding 124-miles to the south.
