Historic and profitable family owned business - The location has been in the family since 1961 when the first sign permit was acquired. In the beginning army barracks and room additions made up this landmark that started as a meat smokehouse.. Today Dutchman's Hidden Valley is a gem which offers an array of merchandise (much of it Texas made), Pecan and Peanut brittle, breads, antiques, Texas art, huge assortment of taffy, homemade candies, canned goods, jewelry, one of a kind toys and gifts, candles, lotions, etc. The Smokehouse was brought into Hidden Valley back in 1985 by Ron Wenzel, known locally as the square headed Dutchman, along with the deli which offers a wide variety of delectables. Renovations have refreshed the look. Today the Dutchman's daughter, Kara Chorenziak, along with an almost family crew, owns and operates the store offering the old-fashioned recipes and time-tested values that feel like you walk into the store as a guest and leave as family. Actually, when you walk into the stores your eyes bug out as you take in a counter filled with homemade chocolates and other favorites and then span the space and try to take in the array of merchandise offered! Grab a Bavarian Ham Sandwich and cold drink and head for the patio but plan to stay awhile as the Dutchman's Hidden Valley takes you back in time! The store is nestled on 4 acres with a scenic hill and creek for a backdrop along with a quaint log cabin and windmill nearby. Overlooking the creek is a new outdoor patio! Location on Hwy 281! Life is good in Hamilton County! The Dutchman's Hidden Valley website says it all!
